Tarrytown Appoints First Female Fire Chief; Work-Life Balance Expo in Stamford

Here’s what’s happening?Today in the 914,?according to Westchester Woman:

1.) The Tarrytown Volunteer Fire Department just elected?its first female fire chief. Kelly Murphy joined the department 12 years ago and it one of three female firefighters in the department. According to lohud, Tarrytown joins a handful of Westchester towns like Ardsley, Armonk, Pleasantville and Pound Ridge who have elected?female chiefs in the past few years.

“You have to prove yourself as a firefighter, not as a female firefighter,” Murphy told lohud. “I think I’ve been successful because I have a good work ethic and I’ve worked hard to learn as much as I can. Honestly, I think it says a lot about the men in this department that they have faith in me and believe that I can do this job well. I’m looking forward to helping us do the best job we can.”
