Here’s what’s happening?Today in the 914, according to Westchester Woman:
1.) (The following item is a press release🙂 The No Child Wet Behind Walk/Run Annual Family Fundraiser will be held?on Saturday, May 21 st at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights.?The 5K competitive run, a family fun 1-mile walk, also includes?activities for kids, musical entertainment, awards for the winners, and much more to raise donations for the?Westchester County Diaper Bank.
No Child Wet Behind (NCWB) is a non-profit organization that was started by the owners of?Northeast Doulas, LLC, a for-profit company based out of Peekskill, NY which provides professional?doula services to families in Greenwich, Westchester, and New York City. When Randy Patterson?and Debbie Aglietti found out that 1 in 3 families struggle to have an adequate supply of diapers,?they both felt the same way,
We have to think of a way to help families in need of diapers?because an inadequate supply of diapers will affect a family both physically and emotionally.?Children may be forced to wear a soiled diaper longer and the entire family will be affected.
The Westchester County Diaper Bank (WCDB), a partnership between The Junior League of Central?Westchester (JLCW*) and County Executive Robert P. Astorino and the Westchester County?Department of Social Services, provides diapers at no cost as assistance to families in need in?Westchester County. ?The JLCW supports the bank by soliciting donations, organizing drives,?managing and packaging inventory, and processing applications, while the Westchester County?Department of Social Services helps distribute the diapers.
Since its inception, the WCDB has?distributed hundreds of thousands of diapers to thousands of babies and toddlers.
The JLCW is anorganization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women,?and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its?purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
I encourage anyone looking to have a good time in the name of a good cause to come on out,?Astorino said. My heartfelt thanks go out to all involved for supporting our Westchester County?Diaper Bank.
NCWB expects its impact to be even greater this year as it will be part of a national effort.?Throughout the country on the very same day twenty different doula agencies will be hosting a?walk/run event to support their local diaper bank or similar community-based organization. ?This confluence of events is happening on the heels of a?recent White House initiative to address The Diaper Divide ?(https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2016/03/10/diaper-divide).
President Obamas intent is to?alert the US citizens to the negative impact that diaper need has on babies and their caretakers.?The country is taking notice.?The family-friendly day will start with a 5k run/walk around FDR Park, followed by activities for all?ages, including: live music a bouncy house, vendor boutique, food and beverage trucks, raffle?prizes, childrens area and more.?Wayside Cottage 1039 Post Road Scarsdale, New York 10583-3036. For more info visit?www.JLCentralWestchester.org, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call?914.723.6130.
Donations of diapers (even partially opened packs) will be accepted throughout the day. ?Those?registrants who take a package of diapers to the event will have a chance to win raffle prizes.?Registration is still open for the 5k.
