Greenburgh’s Dr. Olivia Hooker Turns 101; Seasonal Affective Disorder Cures

Here’s what’s happening today in the 914, according to Westchester Woman:

1.) Our friends at A Mighty Girl gave a shout out to Greenburgh’s own Dr. Olivia Hooker who is celebrating her 101st birthday this week. Dr. Hooker, a survivor of the Tulsa Race riots, was the first African American woman to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard. You can read more about Dr. Hooker below or check out this story in White Plains Patch here.

2.) Got a case of the winter blues? You’re not the only one. Seasonal Affective Disorder or S.A.D. occurs typically during the winter months and can cause depression and or lack of energy and motivation. S.A.D. affects more woman than men, according to the Mayo Clinic. You don’t have to just push through another winter, there are things you can do to help remedy?S.A.D.

You’ll find some tips from the Mayo Clinic here. Westchester Magazine is offering a different approach to S.A.D. with food and we love where they went this this.
