1.) Hundreds of children in Westchester will have their noses stuck in books for the next week, since J.K. Rowling’s latest saga in the Harry Potter series was released at midnight on Saturday.

Children and adults now can enjoy Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the series’ eighth installment, as a part of their summer reading list.

 

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a little different from you traditional Potter book, as it is a script rather than a novel.?Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play based on a story from J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, which is set 19 years after?Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and chronicles the life of Harry Potter, as a Ministry of Magic employee, and his son Albus Severus Potter.

To celebrate the book’s release, book stores all over Hudson Valley held book release parties Saturday night for their die-hard Harry Potter fans.

3.) Westchester parents have seen the effects of standardized testing on their children in grades three through eight. Some have opted their children out of taking these classes,?making it clear that they don’t see the value in or welcome them as a part of the children’s education.

Now the federal government is looking to take that right away and force testing on children. The amendment to the Every Student Succeeds Act would punish school districts with high opt-out rates by lowering their rating and requiring improvement strategies.
