Student Advocacy, Inc. to Celebrate Extraordinary Students Who Overcame the Odds

Student Advocacy, Inc. will host its 31st Annual Overcoming the Odds (OTO) Awards Celebration on May 19, 2026, at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, honoring six extraordinary students and the individuals and organizations who support their educational success.

The event recognizes the remarkable achievements of students who have overcome significant challenges.

The evening brings together the Student Advocacy, Inc. board and staff, educators, community leaders, and supporters from across the region to celebrate resilience, determination, and the power of equitable access to education.

Student honorees will share their journeys alongside the individuals who helped them turn their dreams into reality.

Founded in 1982, Student Advocacy, Inc. provides counsel and legal representation for children and youth facing challenges, including learning and physical disabilities, mental health, and other obstacles that impact learning.

Student Advocacy, Inc. is the only nonprofit in the Westchester and Putnam County region whose exclusive purpose is to provide legal services on education matters at no cost to families with limited financial resources.

“The Overcoming the Odds Awards Celebration reflects the heart of our mission,” said Diane Rosenthal, Executive Director of Student Advocacy, Inc. “This event brings people together who believe that all children and youth should have access to the educational resources that will enable them to engage in learning and thrive. It highlights the resilience and perseverance of the students and families with whom we work, while recognizing the collaborative impact of our legal team, advocates, and the educators, and
community partners who together make these achievements possible.”

The program will feature Dave Price (WNBC’s News 4 New York) as emcee, recognize the Westchester County Bar Foundation as the Community Partner Honoree, and celebrate remarkable students receiving the Overcoming the Odds Award.

You can help students overcome challenges and build resilience by purchasing an event ticket, sponsoring the event, or making a donation.
