Joseph Lento, the Music Director at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers uses his lunch break to bring the gift of music to children with special needs and those from economically disadvantaged ?backgrounds.
This is because Lento knows the impact musical education has on his students. His research, where more than 100 students were observed, shows that students who receive a minimum of two ?years musical instruction, whether its instrumental or chorus, do far better academically than students who do not.
Students with special needs increase their socialization with the community 100% by the time the musical education is complete.
