Here’s what’s happening?Today in the 914,?according to Westchester Woman:
1.) Radical feminist art will snarl through Westchester on Monday, March 21 when the Guerrilla Girls come to ArtsWestchester’s gallery in White Plains for “An Evening With the Guerrilla Girls.”
The event, which kicks off at 6 p.m., is follow by a Q&A and is a part of ArtsWestchester’s “SHE: Destructing Female Identity”exhibition.
Guerrilla Girls are a group of feminist agitator artist/activists who name themselves after dead female artists and conceal?their identities with gorilla masks. Their art and demonstrations call out inequality and discrimination in the art world,?politics, film and culture, and focus on the lack of representation of women in the art world and major museums.
Their risqu? use of humor and facts have a goal, as one member explains:
“We discovered early on that if you could make someone who disagreed with you laugh, then you have a hook inside their?brain. And once you’re in there, you just maybe able to change their mind about things.”
Here’s their message to Westchester, according to LoHud.com:
“Our message to the Westchester crowd is the same as our message to hundreds of people we speak to every year: You cant tell the history of our culture without including all of the voices in our culture in the history. If your favorite museum isnt diverse you should remind them of what’s missing. Everyone should speak up for what they think is unfair.”
2.) The family of Danroy “DJ” Henry, the Pace University football player shot and killed by a police officer outside a?Thornwood bar, accepted a $6 million settlement today reached with?the village of Pleasantville and former Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess.
You can watch a video interview with Henry’s mother?here.
Litigation between the family and the Mount Pleasant Police Department is ongoing for failing to administer medical attention to their son. Donation’s in Henry’s name can be made here.
